Pimp Your Property – $10,000 Home Painting Giveaway – New South Wales (Now closed)

Media Release – 1 March 2011

First National Real Estate has launched a competition throughout New South Wales where homeowners can win a re-paint of their house worth up to $10,000.

‘Australians just love home ownership and there’s a huge amount of interest in making improvements in order to maximise capital growth. But the last thing people want to do in their spare time is paint their house’ the network’s National Communications Manager, Stewart Bunn said.

One of the most important things you can do to preserve or improve the presentation of your property is keep it freshly painted. The winner of the ‘Pimp Your Property – $10,000 Home Painting Giveaway’ will have their home re-painted using quality Dulux paints to the value of $10,000 – enough to complete an average sized Australian house.

‘In a sense, we all prosper by riding on the back of our property renovations so we took a tongue in cheek view in the naming of this competition’ said Mr Bunn.

‘Australia once rode on the sheep’s back but these days, for most Australians, we build wealth and improve our lifestyles by renovating our properties.

‘I’m sure that whoever wins this competition will improve the value of their home by more than the $10,000 investment First National will be making on their behalf’.

To enter the competition, participants need to visit www.pimpyourproperty.com.au and follow the prompts.

The ‘Pimp Your Property – $10,000 Home Painting Giveaway’ competition is simple to enter and runs between 1 March and 31 May, 2011.

Our house has not been repainted in the last 15 years, as my husband had a work related injury and finances have been extremely low. To win something like this would be magnificent. We love our home and it represents our lives our kids and now the grandchild believes it’s also her favourite home. Thankyou for giving us a chance.

it would be amazing to win this prize and be able to restor our home to its beautiful heritage glamour

  3. Helen Reid says:

I need a an expert! I am a country cottage in desperate need of a facelift and a colour makeover. I have been in the sun , rain and wind too long without protection and it shows! Peeled, blistered and looking downright dowdy I need to be exfoliated, primed and painted. The woodwork around my window eyes is deeply lined and in need of deep, nourishing treatments of gentle steaming, sanding and repair with the finest products on the market. My yawning awning eyelids are sagging and an uplift is the only solution. In spite of my sorry state, I have a good bone structure and dressed in an exquisite Dulux colour covering my skin, my transformation from dowdy to dazzling will be complete.

Its heritage listed and old and needs a little TLC…which I myself tried to paint it about 3 years ago and it didn’t work out lol… ” I’m no painter”.. And now i fill so guilty seeing the house like that when i other people and family come over.. • Hi Helen,

Thanks for your comments. They were immediately approved as they are the most creative I’ve seen yet. I’ve no idea why they didn’t appear but I’ve approved once again. Good luck with your entry. It sounds like your home is certainly deserving of a facelift.

our house,is so rundown in our street,
our house, should look so smart and so sleek
our house, has no paint and looks so sad,
our house, just needs to be” duluxed ‘so bad

  9. lisa says:

I would love to be embraced with such a gift as winning this makeover, I am a single working mum raising two young boys and bought a little run down house from the sale of the family home, The paint is peeling and the house is a run down ex rental which I have made some improvements for on the inside but the outside is very old, tired and neglected…I am on my own and don’t have the time or the money to pay someone who knows how to work with such a mess. All my money goes towards bills and raising my sons so there will never be any money left over to save to enhance the look of the outside of the house.
This is our foundation, our stablitly and my joy of giving the boys the best I can, so I would like to just make it look more like a nice family home for them if I can.

  10. Maree Chapman says:

Our old house is my first real home. We bought the old house 7 years ago. Our health and plans were going great. Then unexpectedly I was struck with a chronic degenerative disorder, then in late 2009 my husband Robert nearly lost his life in a car accident. Now we are looking at our dream deteriorate. Have not enough to get someone to do the painting, and can’t do it ourselves. A miracle is what we need. Thank you.
    With regards
    Maree

  11. tracey lange says:

I REALLY REALLY need a paint job in my house as the house has not been painted in 20 years. The whole house is painted this yucky light grey (walls, doors and skirtings – boring). I have three sons and one wants his walls light green, the same as the paint on pimp your property. Everthing is tired tired tired (much like my husband and me). Unfortunately no time for painting but would love your giveaway. Any chance of a makeover for us as well?

  12. Amelia Palmer says:

Hi, my partner and I are the proud owners of our first home. While we fell in love with it immediatley, the original white and mission- brown colour scheme leaves a lot to be desired!!! Please help. We both work full time and are busy raising our 3 year old. This leaves little time for the big jobs. Our house is an original forestry cottage with amazing 12 foot ceilings. A bit of love on the outside would bring it back to its full glory.

  13. chloe says:

i do not want to win this for myself, i am entering for my grandmother. We have had half of the outside of our house painted for over 5 years and havn’t had the money to put towards it, there is also the inside of the house that needs a new paint job as the colors are dull and look warn out. she is a amazing person and deserves this prize!

  14. Sandra Peterson says:

WE would dearly love to win a paint makeover for our house it has been ten years since it was painted and is looking quite shabby,we agree there is nothing like a paint job to freshen your house and make it look sparkling and pleasant to walk thru, my husband has been out of work since August 2010 and as you can imagine money is very sparse to use for anything like that after numerous job applications he is still applying for work anywhere so to win this would be a wonderful lift for us.
    regards
    Sandra

  15. Robyn Clydsdale says:

I need some help, I feel so sad,
My paint is peeling, I look real bad.
My owners are clueless, I’m drab as can be,
Won’t somebody help me, Oh hear my plea!
Yes it’s true I’m old, neglected and shabby
They have tried their best, to keep me happy
But without some help, I always will be
The sad little house, with a bland belly!

  16. Mick says:

Raiders of the Lost Arc… the house resurrected from the ruins! Against all odds, it wasn’t meant to be!
‘The house lives on’ is the tune of the Dulux paint as it envelopes the time machine that inspires life!

  17. I have a challenge, which I am hoping Dulux can handle?
I live in the Southern Highlands of NSW, I was lovingly designed and built by my family sixteen years ago. They have looked after me and cleaned the mould and dirt off every year, but we have three types of weather in one day, frosty mornings, rain and sunshine which has cause my paint to crack blister and peel from my weatherboard walls.
My decking has dried out and is cracking, it needs sanding and nourishing with oil. The pinewood paneling around the pool needs more varnish to protect my wood.
My bathrooms never see the sunshine on the southern side of the house and mould is growing on my walls.
Are you up to the challenge?

  18. lisa stedman says:

I am the worst house in the best street and i definatley look my age which is well and truly over 100 i need lots of heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp to make me look beautiful once again!

  19. Katie Hallinan says:

I am a single home owner and really need my weatherboard house freshly painted. It would truely rock my world if I won this. Fingers crossed.

  20. cayley longhurst says:

hi, im a young home owner who thought i could do the painting my self.. well i was wrong i have red paint on my ceilings in the dining room from lack of edging paint is starting to peel in the lounge room already.. my kitchen only has the pre coat on ( i doubt it will get finished ) and all the ceiling are still yellow from the previous owners not a good look! i have now moved for work and put my house on the market it would be a great help to have the place painted so i might have a chance of sale.

  21. Rebecca Norman says:

My home has not been painted inside for 12 years and outside for 16 years. Last year I spent 4 and a half months in hospital and am still recovering and it would be lovely to have a newly painted house to live in. Also recently one of my children has been diagnosed with a terminal disease and I really need something to cheer me up.

  22. Ted Ivory says:

The house is clad with vyynil weatherboard profile cladding; BUT…….. The eaves and fascia boards really DO NEED painting. Can you help

  23. lorraine walker says:

I would really love to win this Dulux paint job for my son . He has had a couple of bad years with illness and his vehicle breaking down . He works very hard all week and spends saturday with his childrens sport so has only one day for painting . His bad back will notallow him on a ladder to paint.

PLEASE HELP HIM restore his house to its finer glory without smoke stains on the ceiling and horrible colour walls.

  26. Lee Walker says:

Our house was built in the 1960′s , My partner and I moved in 2 days before xmas and would love the opportunity to give it the spark that it needs.

  27. Anna says:

We would love our house to be painted, the inside really needs a paint and i know it would make all the difference. Thank you for giving us the chance!

  28. Tracy Austin says:

OMG finally we purchased our (my) dream cottage in Bermigui so the children and growing numbers of grandchildren, including ourselves, can get away from the hussel of city lives, sit back and relax in this quaint beachside town. We fell in love with Bermi (as the locals name it) within 2 days as it has an old world, back in time feel and then fell in love with what i would say was my long time dream of owning a old 80+ year old cottage. This is were Dulux and First National Real Estate could help with a make over to reclaim some old world charm of a beachside cottage that needs what i would call a colour makeover, moisturiser – prep. foundation – primer, eyeshadow – colour, mascara – feature and lip gloss – enamel to bring a tied face – cottage alive.

  29. how great it would be to uplift the walls in and around my house.I have owned my house for about 10 years now and have a disability to my left arm wich makes it hard to find work to fix my house…property is not at its best at the moment, but i no with a little paint ,those things can change very quickly…it would just make me feel good to walk into a house that i was excited about again, and i no my 2 boys would love a kids themed painting in there room.

  30. Lee-Anne Ovington says:

Pimp my house help .. I have a 30 yo home with cathederal ceilings and I cannot reach to paint anything. Nor will I ever be able to after an assault in the workplace I now have a permanant injury… and struggle with the housework alone. I would truly appreciate this gift.

  31. Suzie Meaker says:

This is not for me but my mum, i would love to do something really special for her and i think she would appreciate it dearly. Our house is OLD my dad bought it over 29 years and him and my mum have lived here for just over 26 , i would love to renovate the entire house (if only money wasnt a problem) but a coat of paint will do wonders. Good luck to all

  32. Its only a two bedroom house. It was built for a war widow and most features are still original. This is our first home bought with my long service payout! Being both nurses we are just too busy to be able to get our little place up to scratch! Love to see it in its former glory!

  33. Jennifer Junge says:

Our house is at least 115 years old, my family and house originated from Joseph Holmes of ‘Holmesville’, (my Great -Great Grandfather). It and my mothers’ house three doors up have been passed down our family line and hopefully will continue to stay in the family in the future.
We did start to renovate and paint both ours and Mums’ house but, unfortunately, due to servere health reasons, my husband was unable to continue. Now permanently, living on the disability and carers pensions, with not much revenue, repairs have drastically slowed down and the property is suffering. Years have passed by, and the poor house is in dire need of serious painting attention, especially outside. With a quality makeover of DULUX to protect and bring it back to it’s former glory again, would end a lot of stress and be a wish come true.

  34. Hi,
I’m 23, i bought my first house at 21 years of age, as you can imagine, it’s a first home owners home, renovators delight…..except I’m no expert renovator. I’m currently at uni, and would LOVE my house to get pimped!! Pretty please!

  35. belinda F says:

After 3 kids our 40 yr old house is in sever need of a paint job.. my husbands idea of painting is just pain the walls to get rid of the stains… So ceilings have not ever been done! doors not done! skirting boards not done! toilet and bathroom not done.. This is a half A** job.. Hence I need it done properly;((((

  36. nathan Sheens says:

My mother has had her house since I was born… She is a single mother and always has been, I don’t want to give you the whole sob story, so winning this for my mum would be one great mothers day present.. She never wins anything nor do I so I suppose there’s no harm in trying after seeing your advert and GO!!!!!

Pimp an old lady’s house and make her house a home…
    :)

  37. My roof is sad and needs a face life the rust looks tied, please help her look happy again

  38. pamela castillo says:

hi first national, i bought my first house with my carpenter boyfriend two and a half years ago. We have been renovating the house our selves non stop on week ends and nights after work. We are almost at the finish and the biggest job left is painting. A beautiful paint job would just consolidate all our hard work.

thanks for the chance and hope you choose me so i can surprise the boyfriend and give him a break cause he works really hard.

  39. Fiona Borella says:

Ok,just like everyone eles my house is looking very sad.Would love a make over,so please pick us.
    CHEERS.
    Fiona

  40. andrew martin says:

I’m 24 years old. I purchased a home just over a year ago to have something stable for my Mum and younger sister. I’ve in the process of renovating and have just completed making a one bedroom home into a three bedroom home. With full time work and renovating, the painting gets left due to lack of fnances and time. This would be a fantastic opportunity and would be very thankful.

    • Congratulations Andy, good on you for stretching yourself to get on the property ladder. Hope the First Home Buyers grant helped you out. Keep making those mortgage repayments and First National will see if it can give you, your Mum and younger sister a leg-up with the exterior. Hang in there…

  41. Radha says:

After staying in the house for more than 3 years, I though that my house should have a good look and I would like to paint my house (my self without assigning to any painter) so that I can paint my house to my taste, for which DULUX is the right company paint to have a good look for my house.

  42. nicole auckland says:

We have been in our house for 9 years, we have had three kids over this time and as a result our cream paint in our house is looking less than cream. Our youngest has drawn on the walls. We have been unfortunate enough to encounter some water leaks which have been fixed but the paint is damaged. The original paint appears to be cheap and does not have the ability of ‘wash and wear’ which we love the idea of, so we would love to have it repainted in a quality DULUX paint.

    • We’ve experienced the ‘wash and wear off’ type of paints out there. It’s a few years later that your truly find out the value of your earlier paint choice. Pop down to your local First National Real Estate member and we’ll give you a free colouring book to distract your youngest. That’s whether you win or not. Thanks for entering and good luck. :-)

  43. jeanette vandam says:

  45. kim roach says:

where to start my home is 100 yrs old it has glading on it so ithink it hasn’t had a paint for about 30 yrs it has the old weather boards still on it our house is the only one it the street that has not had a new paint job so dosn’t look good at all we have just about finish the inside of the house and a now we need the out side to do but like everyone esle you have to have money

  46. Lucy Thompson says:

I live with my mum and dad and two little sisters, our house is nice but does need a good paint! mum and dad work so much that it never gets done and would cost abit to get done too i suppose!. so it would be great to be able to surprise them with this! :)

    • Groovy Lucy, we like your thinking. With Mum and Dad working so hard for you to have a nice home, sometimes the colour on the outside’s not their first priority. We’d sure love you to be able to surprise them with a nice new paint job though. Good luck and keep grooving!

  47. Leonie Green says:

We bought the worst house in the street
From the carpet in the kitchen
to the lami panel walls and mismatched doors
We done the work and fixed the house up

Something is missing what could it be Dulux paint job
    help us out
10,000 thats great thanks Dulux and 1st National

  49. Daniel Sydenham says:

My wife has told me to paint the house , but there are too many other things that need doing…but at least now we have a toilet door! we have been renovating our old 1940′s house now for nearly five years and we have done some painting initially but with two kids that needs repainting now too.I just asked my six year old why we should get our house painted, and she said cause ‘it looks old and messy and we need it to look pretty’. We love the DULUX colour range and already have many colour charts at home.

  50. Me and my wife bought this house in country to take kids away from living in town with all the car hoons and graffitti and young kids that swear ,do drugs no respect for nothing . We have four children ranging from twelve months too eight years as my wife and I have to travel an hour each way to work come weekends its family time so we dont get much renovating done outside is weatherboard and never painted it since we have been here which is five years it is a crappy yellow cream with mould on it in places I have gernied it a couple of times but keeps coming back it is in urgent need of some SUPERB DULUX PRODUCTS. We used these awesome products on the inside made my wife and feel like professionals. When I get time I will always use DULUX PAINTS for anything THE BEST YOU CAN GET!!!!!!

  51. will smith says:

I would love to paint our cottage which was built in the 1888s & is the last remaining building in the main street of our village where I came from called Bimbi
It has been recently listed by the Weddin Shire Council as very high heritage value to the area as very little remains of the village as most of the men enlisted in the First World War & did not return & then it was bypassed by the Railway, houses were moved to other locations & buildings pulled down
We bought it in 1986 to preserve it & some of our local history as so much had been destroyed & it desperately needs a paint job & this was highly recommended by the Heritage Officer to preserve it
It Was the original Post Office , General Store & then an Indian Hawker lived in the Cottage & after he died it became known as Mrs Khans Cottage .

  68. Thanks everybody for entering our competition to win a re-paint to the value of $10,000. The winner of Pimp Your Property was a Ms Sandra Armstrong of Belrose, Sydney.

We hope you’ll throw your hats in the ring for an opportunity to win our next competition starting in July to win free fuel for a year with Caltex.

First National has lots of tips and advice about property renovation. Don’t hesitate to visit our website or call into one of our offices for helpful advice.

  69. Helen Reid says:

Congratulations. I would like to read her entry

  70. Why can’t SA people enter. I was born in NSW. Does that count??? We need house painted desperately. With three young children you can imagine the walls that have been drawn on and the house itself is in the heritage listing so to bring it back to natural it would be really great. Then it would just be the roof left to do.

    • Hi Meredith,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

First National Real Estate is a co-operative and, as such, some marketing initiatives are coordinated at state level. In this particular case, the competition has closed, the winner being drawn last month – Manly, Sydney.

Look out for our national competition in October where winners will have an opportunity to win five prizes of $5000 worth of Bunnings gift cards. That would see you home re-painted! :-)

Just visit any First National Real Estate office’s website in October.

To win this competition would be amazing! My boyfriend and I haven’t had the best financial run in the last year and I really want my walls to have a facelift. There is still smoke markings on the wall in our unit and its gross. To win this, would mean so much to my boyfriend and I.
    Thankyou.

To save money I decided to do the painting myself. I now need the professionals to come and paint our house to save my mental state. I have learnt that some things are best left to the professionals in the first place!

I would like to pimp my property as we have just bought the house and it is in need of a make over. We both work full time and have 3 children that we have at school and in care and all out money goes on child care.

  75. Patrick Barnes says:

I’d love to pimp my property as I work away a lot – That would give me some more quality time with my children AND make our house look great!

  76. Paul Trist says:

Why is the add still on TV? And it doesn’t say NSW only
    Very disappointed.

    • Hi Paul,

      Thanks for your comment.

Pimp Your Property is a state based campaign and while it ran earlier this year in NSW, it is currently running in Victoria. Is there any chance you live in a border town like Albury/Wodonga? You might be seeing Victorian TV advertising I suspect.
If you are a NSW resident, you can enter our ‘Free Fuel For a Year’ competition right now. In October, we have five chances to win $5,000 in Bunnings hardware vouchers – that would certainly go a long way towards painting your home.

Hopefully that brightens your start to the week.

My partner and I have recently purchased a run down house, as we are only 20 years old and weren’t able to buy anthing flash, our house is very ran down, I’m currently studying full time at university to be a paramedic and working as much as possible to support myself, my partner is an apprentice and doesn’t earn much in a week. There are many things that need fixing to our house, at times the work can be overwhelming, I live in Victoria and I’m not sure if anything is running at the moment but it would be the biggest help to get my house pimped!!

    Thanks’
    Amanda
