Mr Gray said that with the greatly improved prospects for 2012, he hopes the year ahead will be even more rewarding for members.

“Personally, I am motivated by the excitement of sharing in shaping an organisation that excels at every level and continues to strive for setting industry benchmarks.”

Overcoming Obstacles Key To Success

Media Release- 21 May 2011

Delegates at First National Real Estate’s Annual Convention, being held in Coolum this week, heard first hand the experiences of James Castrission and Justin Jones in the importance of overcoming obstacles in realising dreams.

James and Justin were the first adventurers to successfully navigate, by kayak, the Tasman Sea, from Australia to New Zealand, months after someone had died attempting the same journey.

“We hope our story of battling 100km an hour winds, ten metre waves and food and sleep deprivation will provide the First National delegates with some valuable insights that they will be able to take away with them and adopt in their every day personal and business lives,” James and Justin said.

“The most important lessons we learnt, the hard way, were that teamwork, planning and preparation including risk management strategies and a well executed plan are paramount in everything we do.

“To achieve your goals, always keep the big picture in sight.  A valuable piece of advice after what the property industry has had to face recently, especially in the light of the unsettling economic conditions and climactic turbulence.”

Justin and James, highly motivating and inspiring speakers, said the real estate industry had many parallels with due diligence and teamwork planning a hugely important role in finding the right product for the right person.

“It is so easy to lose track of the bigger picture when you’re swirling around in current whirlpools in the middle of the Tasman, battling 10 metre waves and 4m long sharks,” Justin and James said.

“Although not a matter of life and death,  it is the same with the real estate industry, where they also have to be vigilant against their own kinds of risks and threats.”

First National Real Estate Chief Executive Officer, Ray Ellis, said the network’s members were privileged to be hearing the secrets of James and Justin’s survival.

“Their inspirational journey provides great insight to the subjects of leadership, taking control of your life, challenging yourself mentally and physically, facing adversity and the strategic contingency planning required by such a mammoth task,” Mr Ellis said.

“When pushed to our limits, it is important to understand which boundaries we can push even further, what heights we can reach and what our personal parameters really are.  Very few are able to do this, and, as a network, we are honoured that two people who have done it are willing to share their experiences and learnings with us.

“We should all take a page from their book and who knows where we might end up – perhaps helping the government make decisions about the future of this great industry!”

James, at 29 years of age, has a Bachelor of Commerce and has worked as a consultant and analyst for a major international accounting firm.  He decided to make mountaineering, rock climbing, bushwalking and kayaking a focus of his life and has climbed some of the most challenging peaks in Australia and New Zealand, and walked some of the most breathtaking tracks in the world.

James Castrission and Justin Jones

Justin, at 27 years of age, completed an advanced science degree with Honours in Physiology at the University of New South Wales, before deciding against a life of academia and opting for one of adventure! Jonesy can also add documentary producer to his repertoire; having co-produced the Crossing the Ditch documentary which has recently won international acclaim.

James and Justin also shared a glimpse of their upcoming world first expedition down in Antarctica at the end of this year. “We are planning the first ever unsupported sled haul from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back. No one has achieved this goal and we feel that we are the team to take this on.” Details on their next expedition can be found on our website; www.casandjonesy.com.au.

Cyclone Yasi Emergency Contact

Several First National offices in Far North Queensland closed early today to make preparations for Cyclone Yasi’s expected landfall tonight. Members were busy removing signboards, providing advice to tenants and making properties as safe as possible.

Severe disruptions to normal business are anticipated tomorrow.

If you are unable to reach your local First National office in Far North Queensland and require advice or a property condition report, please contact 1800 032 332 for assistance.

Preparing for cyclone Yasi

As Far North Queensland residents begin preparing for cyclone Yasi’s landfall, First National Mission Beach has called upon all customers with properties for sale through First National Real Estate to remove any signage from outside their properties.

For all absentee owners, First National Mission Beach will be attending to the removal of signs within the next 24 hours.

Surprisingly, agency principal Di Wagner reports that Mission Beach is today experiencing the most beautiful day with clear blue skies and calm seas.

First National Real Estate encourages all property owners to remove all garden furniture and any objects that could become misiles, and store them in a safe, secure place. The Queensland government is encouraging residents in areas at risk to stock up on candles, batteries and basic foodstuffs as electricity cuts will occur and communities may be isolated.

If you have concerns about a property in First National’s care, please contact your First National agent urgently.

First National Real Estate 2011 Convention

Hyatt Coolum, Queensland

Hyatt Coolum, Queensland

First National Real Estate, Australia’s third largest real estate brand with over 450 offices throughout Australia and New Zealand, will hold its annual National Convention at Hyatt Coolum Queensland between 19 and 22 May 2011.

More than 500 Australian and New Zealand real estate agents are expected to attend the three day event that includes keynote presentations, training sessions and recreational events.
Hey Hey Its Saturday’s John Blackman will MC the Convention, an event that caps off six years of re-structuring and rebuilding that culminated in the roll-out of First National’s refreshed brand in 2010.

Keynote speaker Jim O’Brien, one of the highest profile police operatives in Australia, is the man who dismantled the major organised crime gangs whose existence spawned the popular television series – Underbelly. The business model he built holds great relevance to the exceptionally competitive world of real estate. Other speakers include James Castrission and Justin Jones who were the first kayakers to cross the mighty Tasman sea as well as Amanda Gore and Charlie Nelson.

First National Real Estate’s gathering momentum has not escaped the industry’s notice. The brand is increasingly seen as innovative, one that is rapidly expanding its demographic reach and the network is one of the few currently experiencing growth.

Following Business Review Weekly’s publication of the top 30 real estate brands in Australia, First National Real Estate was found to be number one at Inbound Marketing by independent analysts. With online marketing clearly dominating print media as a contemporary real estate marketing channel, First National’s preeminence represents a significant threat to the biggest real estate brands in the country.

In 2010, Australian Marketing Institute judges commended one of the network’s key relationship marketing technologies – Utopia – and, as early adopters of social networking, the network’s agents are breaking new ground and changing the way they interact with customers to generate business.

Trade displays are a central focus of First National Real Estate conventions and offer exhibitors the opportunity to expose products and services to an audience eager to seize upon leading edge technology and innovative marketing tools.

First National offers a range of trade display and sponsorship packages for the 2011 Coolum Convention and is noted by suppliers for the serious emphasis it places on the support and patronage of exhibitors.
